Growing up playing for DC Assault, Julian Vaughn formed a relationship with one of the program's coaches, David Cox. Now, after one season in Tallahassee playing for Florida State, Vaughn and Cox will be reunited as Vaughn has left FSU and will transfer into Georgetown.
As a freshman, Vaughn averaged 3 ppg and 2.3 rebounds while playing in 31 games. Vaughn averaged 13 minutes a game and missed some time around the holidays as he underwent a battery of medical tests, but no official word on his health was ever released. After missing two games and two weeks of practices, Vaughn returned to the team.
The Reston (VA) native played at three different high schools in the DC/VA area, including a season at powerful Oak Hill Academy. Vaughn will have three years of eligibility left after sitting out the 2008-2009 season.
In effect, Vaughn fills the roster spot opened by the transfer of Vernon Macklin, who left Georgetown earlier this spring for the University of Florida. Vaughn will be another 6'10 player in a class that includes Greg Monroe, Henry Sims and Chris Braswell, who will also be sophomores during the 2009-2010 season. Braswell has yet to qualify academically, however, and could end up with another prep season before heading to Georgetown. That situation is not expected to be cleared up for some time yet.
