GEORGETOWN 2007-2008 SNAPSHOT

Incoming Players:

Open Issues:
Jeff Green and Roy Hibbert have both made themselves available for the NBA draft. Neither has signed with an agent leaving the possibility they could return for their senior seasons, which would solidify the Hoyas as a title contender for 2007-2008. Both are projected lottery picks, but are saying all the right things to give the Hoyas hope for their return.

Rumors persist that Octavious Spann will transfer out of Georgetown and return to a school closer to his Georgia home. Spann has played very little in his first two season as a Hoya and the prospect for playing time is unlikely to increase next year.

Summary:
Even if Green and Hibbert remain in the NBA draft the Georgetown program is VERY hot right now under John Thompson III. A starting five of Jonathan Wallace, Jesse Sapp, DeJuan Summers, Patrick Ewing and Venon Macklin is good enough to compete with anyone in the Big East and that does not even include a pair of McDonald's All-American guards arriving in Austin Freeman and Chris Wright. Freeman will add a significant scoring bunch and Summers is likely to step his game up at the 3/4 combo position like Green and Brandon Bowman before him in the system. Without Green and Hibbert the frontcourt depth and offense is a question mark that will cause the Hoyas to slip a bit next season, but they still will be in the mix among the top four in the conference and a near NCAA lock.

Georgetown adds a second big man in the class of 2008 as Henry Sims, one of the top prospects in the Baltimore area, chose the Hoyas over the weekend. Sims, a junior, accepted a scholarship offer from the Hoyas over offers from Maryland, Boston College, Florida and Virginia. Sims averaged 11.1 points, 9.9 rebounds and 2.5 blocks this past season. Sims joins Chris Braswell on the Hoyas frontline that could replace Roy Hibbert and Jeff Green if they return to school for the 2007-2008 season. Jason Clark also is a member of the Hoyas' class of 2008 which represents the best start in the conference on the 2008 trail and gives the Hoyas three consecutive top-notch classes.

Currently, Georgetown has one scholarship open or 2008, but there are rumors that Octavious Spann will transfer closer to his Georgia home in an attempt to find more playing time to finish his career. Exoect the Hoyas to be on the trail of a small forward and possbily another guard to close out their 2008 recruiting. Despite a limited staff due to Kevin Broadas (Binghampton) and Sydney Johnson (Princeton) accepting head coaching positions, the Hoya train rolls on...
