NEWEST HOYA: NATE LUBICK

October 8, 2008

Georgetown head coach John Thompson III continues to flex his recruiting muscles, this time garnering a verbal commitment from class of 2010 power forward Nate Lubick of St. Mark's School. Earlier today we caught up with St. Mark's head basketball coach David Lubick, who also doubles as Nate's father, to learn more about the Hoyas' latest commitment.

As we have followed the recruitment of Nate Lubick in recent months, it seemed like no matter what schools he would discuss, the conversation always seemed to come back to Georgetown. After another visit to the campus late in the summer, it was just a matter of time.

"Nate had a great feeling after his visit at the end of the summer," coach Dave Lubick said. "(He) really dug in and decided this week."

There is no doubt that Georgetown University has a lot to offer a student-athlete, from the top-of-the-line education, living in the world's most powerful city and playing in a major basketball conference for a highly regarded coach. When Mr. Lubick mentioned some of the factors in Nate's decision, those topics seemed to be very prevalent.

"Biggest factors, along with the comfort he felt with the coaches and the team, were the quality and size of the school, tradition and recent history of success, style of play that favors his versatility, location in that he’ll play near home often and we have close family in DC, and his desire to be in a compelling urban location," his father stated.

A big man that plays inside and out with a great feel for the game can really find a home in the Georgetown offense, see former Big East Player of the Year and recent lottery pick from the 2007 NBA draft Jeff Green. When you hear of the strengths that Nate will bring the Hoyas, images of Green race through your mind.

"Nate can really score around the rim, makes tough layups from all angles and finishes," coach Lubick said of his son's strengths. "But he can really shoot it, too (and) perhaps his biggest asset, though, is the way he sees things developing (and being) able to put teammates in position to score."

In the intricate Georgetown offense, the skills of a forward like Lubick who can handle himself inside and out is a must. Like Green previously, current forward DaJuan Summers, incoming 2008 freshman Greg Monroe and now Nate, in the class of 2010, coach Thompson definitely has defined the typ of forward he is looking for, and that is clear with his plans for Lubick.

"Coach Thompson sees Nate as a tough, skilled, smart player," Mr. Lubick said. He (JT III) really doesn’t define roles too specifically, but if Nate is a face up four man, coach feels that he has an opportunity to contribute sooner than later because he’s a pretty smart basketball player."

A face-up four that can act as a coach on the floor, it looks like the Georgetown train will keep on rolling with the squad continuing to be among the favorites in the NCAA Basketball Odds of competing for titles. Nate Lubick joins exciting point guard Markel Starks as commitments for the Hoyas in the class of 2010 that will look the Hoyas near the top of the Big East.
